MÁIRÍN NÍ SHÍOCHÁIN: A KINSHIP OF CREATURES

  • Post Office Gallery, Federation University Australia Corner Sturt Street and Lydiard Street Ballarat, Victoria 3353 Australia

Máirín Ní Shíocháin’s art practice and her current research reflects a lifelong affinity with non-human animals and, in particular, animals and birds in natural habitats in Ballarat and the surrounding district. Focusing on the recognition of kinship between humans and other animals, Ní Shíocháin’s current body of work, made with and on paper, also contribute to the current discourse surrounding the portrayal of animals in contemporary art and culture.

This exhibition represents the culmination of Ní Shíocháin’s practice-led PhD research at the Arts Academy, Faculty of Education and Arts, Federation University Australia.
