Emily (French) White's work: 

After receiving my Ballarat Arts Foundation grant in 2005, I returned to Switzerland to further my study and appreciation of Swiss Poster Art.

Not long after I arrived home in Ballarat, I was approached by the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E) to develop a contemporary eye-catching poster and billboard design for the Eureka 151 Celebrations. It was around this time I began working for local advertising agency RU Advertising, where I stayed for over 10 years. 

During my time at RU I worked on a number of large accounts, including City of Ballarat, PETstock, Telstra, Bendix Brakes and Federation University, designing everything from promotional posters/flyers to TV commercials to websites/apps.

In 2010 I was promoted to Production Manager/Senior Designer and during this year I was invited to speak at the ‘Go Girl, Go for IT’ showcase at Deakin University, the goal of which was to encourage girls to consider a career in IT.

In 2014, I was fortunate enough to project manage two award winning mobile phone apps (Winners at the Australian Mobile & App Design Awards).

In April 2016 I resigned from RU Advertising to become the City of Ballarat’s In-House Graphic Designer with the Media & Communications department. This has been a wonderful experience and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work in both a small team and now a larger organization. I love Ballarat and the community, so working with the events team at COB on promoting their community events has been a highlight, especially seeing the CBD come to life with my designs.

Another highlight was receiving gold for the 2015/16 City of Ballarat Annual Report at the Australasian Reporting Awards, in June 2017.

I am very grateful for the support that the BAF gave me when I was first starting out, and over the years have continued to show my appreciation by giving back where I can, whether it’s assisting with design work, photography or website content.

I’m now looking forward to my next challenge, becoming a mum later this year.
