JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH 2012

Hello everyone! Time to wish you a Happy New Year!

Catching up on news from the BAF Family:
•    We were delighted to see so many of you at the Private Performance of “Bedroom Farce” presented by Ballarat National Theatre on December 5th – Kathleen Hobson described it as “an excellent performance, hilarious!” It was good to see Bill and Sue Wood, great supporters whose company we’ve missed due to their many other commitments.

•    We’re privileged to welcome Cr. Mark Harris as our new Patron, having succeeded Cr. Craig Fletcher as Mayor.

•    We welcome back former Board Member Yvonne Jeganathan and her family who have returned to Ballarat after a period in Queensland. She says “we look forward to sharing the passion of the Ballarat Arts Community with you”.

•    Congratulations to Ballarat Lyric Theatre Secretary Bev Horwood on her recognition as one of the 10 outstanding Volunteers in our city during the 10th anniversary of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers.

•    Also in the limelight were ‘Mr. Music’ Graeme Vendy and recent winner of the Inaugural Nicholson Award for Contemporary Performance – Chelsea Donoghue – who featured on a recently produced CD “The Cabaret Club”
with part-proceeds to Relay for Life.

•    Congratulations to Benjamin Northey and his wife Jo on the birth of their daughter Eva Lorraine. Benjamin was profiled in a special feature in the Boxing Day issue of The Courier as one of Ballarat’s great achievers for 2011, principally for his new role as Associate Conductor with the MSO. Also featured for her contribution to the Arts was Board Member Janet Low. What distinguished company we are in!

•    Congratulations to Board Member Janelle Yates on her engagement to Damian Ryan – good luck for the future!

•    Coming up, we’ll be honouring two members of the BAF Family during International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8th. Emma Barrance and Dr. Tamara Boyd will be
among the 2012 nominees recognized as ‘Ballarat’s Great Women’ for the part they play in the cultural life of our city.

•    We’re also looking forward to discovering who will receive the Denis Bateman Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Ballarat Arts Community on March 15, following in the footsteps of the Inaugural recipient Peter Dale in 2010 and the recipient in 2011, Barb Dunlop.

•    On a sad note, we mourn the passing of Carole Coltman, whose family have been such great supporters of BAF.

•    In case any members are wondering about the rebadging of BOOKCITY to COLLINS – it is still under the same ownership so member benefits continue to apply for this financial year.
