The Ballarat Arts Foundation provides an encouragement award of $100.00 to a singer in the Classical Vocal Section (16 to 19 years) at the Royal South Street Society Competitions usually held in late July or early August.

From 2011, the Ballarat Arts Foundation offers a second BAF Encouragement Award in the 14-16 Classical Dance Section.

The winner in each category is chosen from competitors who entered a prescribed number of Sections, who live within a 75 km radius of Ballarat CBD, and who is, in the opinion of the Adjudicator, worthy of encouragement.

These Awards are not open to application.

The award recipients become members of the BAF Alumni, a growing body of award recipients studying, living or working here or overseas, who are able to keep in touch through twice-yearly issues of their own Magazine, Alere.
